Indienreise von Rupesh Disney Godfred

A SHORT BIOGRAPHY AND THE MOTIVE OF CHURCH VISITS

I was born as the first born to Mr. Austin Godfred and Mrs Sheela Godfred, on November 19, 1971. I consider myself fortunate to be born in a Basel Mission family. While helping me create a deep rooted faith in God, my family has inculcated in me the values of the rich tradition and culture I am born into, and the contributions of the Christian missionaries towards this. My grandmother was especially influential in creating a passion in me towards my culture and faith. Born in 1917, my grandmother (Mrs Lilly Joel) had witnessed a lot of activities the early missionaries had done in North Kerala. As a child, I grew up listening to many stories about the Basel mission church and the missionaries from her, which continued to fascinate me. The tireless work of the Christian missionaries in improving the health and education of my people has always touched my heart. As a member of the Basel Mission church, the contributions they have given in building churches and spreading Christianity in Kerala has made me ponder about my responsibilities towards the next generation.

I work in the Middle East as a Sales Executive and live with my family in Abu-Dhabi. I have always kept an interest in looking for historical pictures of the Basel mission churches in Kerala. The year 2013 started off as a true blessing for me! It was with child-like joy and enthusiasm that I visited few churches in and around Kozhikode. I felt as if the walls and the surroundings of these buildings were talking to me! Are the missionaries who built these churches still somewhere around? Do they still have stories to tell me? How can I carry on the light of their dedication and commitment to the next generation?

The pictures that I am sending to you were taken to show how the Basel mission churches appear now. These pictures are my contribution to the future generation. Thank you for your willingness to publish it on your website. I am sure many who see these pictures on your website will cherish the memories they have, regarding these places which were built for His Name’s glory! God Bless!
